They have given the results of Imagine Cup 2007 – Web Design competition. Few of my friends (Sandaruwan, Keshan, Nuwan and Kasun) participated and they had an innovative, useful and nice (beautiful) submission – Acso.
I was so sure that these guys would be selected to the top 6. When I heard that they were not selected and had a look at the submissions which were selected (iPhysics, Scrooba!, …), I felt that it wasn’t fair.
As far as I could feel their submission had all the qualities / characteristics the Imagine Cup organizer’s had asked for :
Reach : this site doesn’t require flash plug-ins or any other plug-ins to be downloaded and can be viewed on any browser
Accessibility : this is the only feature which is not preset on this, but I didn’t see it on other projects as well
Innovation & Differentiation : the idea, features and design was innovative and creative – I haven’t seen anything similar before
Usability : although it has not achieved zero-training, it can be used by any user who has used the internet before. The site is based on web 2.0 and it has a small help on the sidebar which guilds you in everything.
Maintainability : well I don’t know much about this as I haven’t seen their code, but I know for sure that they are good programmer’s who good programming practices since I have worked with them
I was passionate about Imagine Cup because of what I heard from them – the team work, innovation and creativity required (also the prizes
), and I wanted to compete in next year. But now I’ll give it a second thought.
