MARC (Millennium All-Island Robot Competition) is a programming competition which commenced in November, (yeah, it’s a bit late now). You got to write a program to run a robot (a virtual robot) to collect stuff. It’s a bit like the mouse in a maze problem at first sight.
The robot is supposed to collect some stuff (they call it research data), open doors if you want to go inside rooms, teleport between places, so it is complicated; moreover, you don’t know where the things are – you can only see just a few inches ahead of you.
Although there are many international competitions like this, I think this is the only or one of the few in Sri Lanka. The cash prizes they have offered are also attractive – four hundred thousand for under 19 category and six hundred thousand for open category.
If you are interested (in the competition or money) you can download the rules and the SDK from MARC web site and give it a try.
